African American Studies alum Dr. Maggi Morehouse receives
University of South Carolina, Aiken’s Community Service Award
Greetings to my esteemed colleagues and supporters:
I am thrilled to let you know that I am this year’s University of South Carolina, Aiken’s Community Service Award winner! I was selected by a committee of my peers who read my application and then selected me for this prestigious award. I was recognized at the Annual Convocation April 17th at a ceremony for all the faculty and student honorees (see picture attached). Because I care deeply about making a positive impact in this community, I feel rewarded with this honor. My work on the board of the Center for African American History, Art and Culture, plus my newest board membership with the “Old Aiken Colored Cemetery,” in addition to my board membership on the Historic Aiken Foundation, and my advising with The South West Buffalo Soldier Association (SWABS) black officer’s club restoration project, and all the community talks I’ve given around the area, brought me to the attention of the administration and my faculty peers who nominated and awarded me this honor. What a great year this has been! Thank you for your support over the years.
