The Resource Center on Aging maintains a small lending library at the Center located in 535 University Hall on the corner of University & Oxford Aves. across from the main entrance to the campus. The library normally is open from 12:30 - 4:30 PM Monday through Friday or by appointment. However, please call 510-643-6427 to make certain a staff member is there to help you.
The library is available to students, faculty, staff, and the general public. Its holdings include books, reports including government documents, journals, newsletters, local and state publications and reference material (directories, bibliographies, and funding sources) on aging. Patrons may borrow materials for two weeks (with some exceptions). There is no charge for this service.
The Center library is not part of the larger UC Berkeley library system. However, you can view the library's entire holdings by subject, title, author, publisher, date, call number (for books) and category (book, journal, newsletter, video, etc.).

Basic Title Search: Most searches can be done as a Basic Title Search by entering one or more words of the title in the title field.
Searching on Fields
When you search on a field, the search will be done in that field only; it will not go to other fields. However, you can search on two fields at once. See examples below.° Subject Search: Searches only in the subject field. Enter a key word in this field to find all library material on this subject, e.g. if you enter Alzheimer, all library material on Alzheimer's Disease will appear. For a list of subjects click here .
° Title Search: Use when you know one or more of the words of a title; e.g., if you enter the word Alzheimer, all library material with Alzheimer in the TITLE will appear.
° Author Search Use when you know the authors name. For example, if you type in the name Butler, all library material by any author named Butler will appear.
° Publisher Search Best used in conjunction with a title and/or author, e.g. if you know the publisher is Springer and the author is Butler, type Butler in the author field, and Springer in the publisher field. All library material by Butler and published by Springer will appear.
° Date Search will give you the year (only) of the date of publication; e.g. if you type 1994 in this field, all library material with the publication date of 1994 will appear.
° Call Number pertains to books only; books are shelved by call number, or the ISBN number is put in this field if no call number is available.
° Category Search Each library holding is categorized by one of the following: book, journal, pamphlet, report, reference, newsletter, video. If you would like to see a list of all books in the library or all journals or all reports, and so on, type book, journal, or report respectively in the category field, and a list of all holdings in that category will appear. Only one category type can be used at a time. However, you can search on more than one field at a time. For example, if you wanted to find a book on the humanities and aging by Tom Cole, you would type humanities in the subject field, Cole in the author field, and book in the category field.
California Search To search for all library holdings pertaining to California, type California in the subject field.
