Travis Hime's Minimally Useful Page
What's New
- 1/4/07: Added the Science paper to the publications list.
- 7/10/06: The address of my blog has changed: http://arcanegazebo.net.
- 6/20/06: Added May 30 PRB to publications.
- 3/28/06: Updated talks list.
- 8/17/05: Updated publications list.
- 5/1/05: Major update and rewrite.
- 2/22/04: Oh yeah, I have a minimally useful web page which
is a year out of date. Now it is no longer out of date but still only
minimally useful. I feel compelled to mention that the livejournal
server mentioned in the previous update is now running Movable Type;
you will probably find it more interesting than this page. (See
below.)
- 2/3/03: I am now running a livejournal server
on inverse, as an
extension of a journaling experiment I began last month. Please
ignore the many pages that still look like livejournal's site; I have
yet to set up my own look.
- 1/27/03: Usual new-semester
update.
- 9/16/02: Brought the academic information up
to date.
- 6/28/02: Photos
from Josh and Sharon's wedding are up!
- 6/11/02:
Long-overdue, minor update.
- 1/22/02: Updated courses
for Spring 2002 semester.
- 11/5/01: Finished
yesterday's initial update. I may add some more later, like a formal
list of links. I embedded most of the relevant ones in the text
already though.
- 11/4/01: Yes, another complete rewrite
of my page. Naturally, I have work I should be doing right now, so I
go and make a new homepage from a blank slate. Don't expect updates
very often... I probably won't make a habit of this.
Internet Presence
This page is intended as a minimalist source of information for the
casual searcher. I contribute in one way or another to several other
webpages:
- I maintain a regularly updated weblog called Arcane Gazebo. You
will likely find it more interesting than this page.
- Information on music I listen to is compiled at my
Audioscrobbler page.
- Links I find interesting are listed
at del.icio.us.
- Some digital photography has been posted at Flickr.
- I have a
LiveJournal page, but its only use is to provide status updates
when my primary weblog is down.
- My Technorati
profile provides a list of sites that link to me.
Bio
I was born in Houston, TX, and have lived there on and
off over the years. A major portion of my childhood was spent in Great
Falls, VA, which is in the Washington, D.C. metro area. I spent my
adolescence in Connecticut and graduated from New Canaan High School
in 1997. Subsequently I attended the California Institute of Technology,
receiving a B.S. with Honors in physics in 2001. Currently I'm a
graduate student in the physics
department at UC
Berkeley. After obtaining an M.A. in physics in 2003, I am
now working on my Ph.D.
Academics
I am in my fourth year of graduate school.
Teaching
Fall 2001–Spring 2002: Graduate student instructor for the Basic
Semiconductor Circuits section of Physics 111 (advanced undergraduate laboratory)
Spring 2005: GSI for Physics 141A (undergraduate solid state)
Research
I'm doing research in macroscopic quantum coherence in Professor John Clarke's
research group.
