Basic Semiconductor Circuits (BSC)

Spring 2009

Attention all Students come to the Introduction lecture first day of class in room 251 LeConte Hall at 1:00 PM.

NOTE: Each Student must have their picture available on the UC Berkeley bSpace site. If NOT then you must bring a PASSPORT PHOTO of themselves to turn in ( not the actual passport but the actual passport photo) on the 1 st day of Lab for security purposes.

The Basic Semiconductors Circuits Laboratory is the first semester of the Physics Departments' advanced laboratory class, Physics 111, required for all physics majors. The class consists of approximately 12 labs, and ends with a design project. The labs progress from basic instrumentation to frequency dependent components, transistors, op amps, and ends with digital circuits. Each lab takes approximately two and a half afternoons to complete; one lab is due each week. We are now teaching LabView and learning how to control experiments with the use of this software program and computers. This is applied Physics in action. We appreciate the donations received from donors, National Instruments, and a grant from NSF.

Each weeks laboratories exercises are outlined in the laboratory manual.

Several of the laboratories involve simulating circuits with Spice. The required simulation files for these exercises, as well as for many other circuits, are available here.

Supplementary materials (such as Fourier and Noise Generators, MathCad Analysis programs) are available for some of the laboratories.
